Welcome to Jena!

About Us: The junior-GBM Jena

The junior-GBM city group Jena was founded by bioscience students of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena and has been existing for almost ten years. We offer the opportunity to connect with other life science students and young scientists from a more local up to the regional and federal level, which serves as an excellent way to expand the academic and professional network.

On the local level, we are regularly organizing events such as scientific talks and meet-the-scientist sessions, providing better insights into the academic carreers, but also personal life choices of more senior researchers. Moreover, there are annual events such as the How-to-bachelor-thesis workshop, the awarding of the GBM Bachelor Thesis Award and the Science slam in collaboration with the btS Jena. In the future, we also plan to shine more light on the industrial carreer path by organizing company visits and inviting industrial scientists.

On the federal level, there is the annual Junior-GBM Summer Symposium, which is organized by a different city group each year and took place in Jena in 2024 on the topic of “Immunology and host-pathogen interactions”. Participating in these symposia is a great way to connect with junior-GBM members all over Germany and learn about the scientific focus of different cities. Furthermore, we regularly join the Mosbacher Kolloquium, which is the meeting of the general GBM taking place in March every year.

Besides these larger events, there are also regular meetings within the city group, which are either used for planning and organization or as informal get-togethers for playing games, enjoying some snacks and getting to know like-mided people in a friendly and open atmosphere.

If you are interested in becoming an active part of our city group and shape its future direction, feel free to get in touch with us via our email or our Instagram account, where we also advertise our upcoming meetings. We are looking forward to meeting you there!
